“So far so good. I have been shopping self-storage units in the county and Jamestown Self storage was upfront and clear with their pricing which was such a relief because every other self storage location in the area i spoke to refused to actually tell me how much my storage unit will cost after the "promotional time frame," in fact, they would only tell me 30 days prior to the rent change and it could be as much as double the price, not double the promotional price, these units are declaired to be $19 or $25 or $65 and they then offer an even cheaper "promotional price" for the first month... that is NOT the rent price... it goes up from $19 to $54 after the first month and THEN THEY RAISE IT AGAIN TO AS MUCH AS 200%! So my rent would start as $19, and can finish at as much as $108 in 3 months, but THEY FLATLY REFUSE TO TELL ME WHAT THE RATE WILL BE! Until I have moved in, paid their $45 admin fee and given them autopay access to my checking account or credit card... then they will send an email. I am shocked that this is legal, it made me feel gross to even interact with their staff. Long story short (too late), Jamestown Self Storage on Victoria way in Jamestown CA doesn't do any of that B.S. I called the number, they informed me of the rental rate, their admin fee was $29 (not $45) their insurance rate was $14 for my small unit, not ($16+ like the others) and the customer service rep, Patsy, was efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. I was so relieved to speak with a reasonable person, representing a reasonable company, I signed up on the spot and I am headed to the office to get my gate code right now. To be clear, there was one self storage place I did not call - All County Self Storage, and I cannot speak to their business practices. I don't want to lump them in with these corrupt corporate shysters pushing shady business practices on our small town locals. They might be great, I don't know, but they appear to be old school (I hope so). Regardless, I highly recommend Jamestown Self Storage. Thank you for coming to my T.E.D. talk, that is all. ;).”
