What Size Storage Unit Would the Addams Family Need?

The Addams Family has a lot going on. Between Wednesday's growing collection of mysterious belongings, Morticia's extensive wardrobe, Gomez's… many hobbies, Uncle Fester's questionable collection of treasures, and Thing somehow turning up everywhere, even the Addams mansion could probably use a little extra space.

So, if the Addams Family needed a storage unit, what size would they choose? We did the math. Sort of.

First: What Would the Addams Family Actually Store?

Let's assume they're not putting the entire mansion into storage. We're talking about the things that have accumulated over the years and are taking up valuable space in the crypt… er, attic.

🖤 Morticia's Wardrobe

Morticia has a signature look, but that doesn't mean she only owns one dress.

We're estimating:

  • Long black dresses
  • Shoes and accessories
  • Seasonal clothing
  • Antique garments
  • A few mysterious boxes she refuses to discuss
  • Storage estimate: 2–3 boxes and several garment bags

🕷️ Wednesday's Collection

Wednesday probably doesn't need much space. She's more of a minimalist.

Her storage list might include:

  • Books
  • School belongings
  • Typewriter
  • Costumes
  • Various science-project materials
  • A surprisingly large collection of spiders
  • Storage estimate: 5–8 boxes

🧳 Gomez's Hobbies

This is where things start getting complicated.

Gomez is known for his many interests, which could translate into quite a bit of storage:

  • Fencing equipment
  • Trains
  • Antique furniture
  • Books
  • Collectibles
  • Costumes
  • Family memorabilia
  • Storage estimate: Several boxes + some bulky items

And let's be honest: the trains alone might require their own unit.

🧪 Uncle Fester's Stuff

This is the wildcard. What exactly does Fester own? We don't want to know.

But we can safely assume there are some unusual collections, electrical contraptions, old furniture and things that absolutely should not be sitting in the living room.

  • Storage estimate: One very mysterious corner of the unit

🖐️ Thing's Belongings

Thing doesn't need much space. But Thing does need easy access.

We're giving him one conveniently located box.

  • Storage estimate: 1 box

🪦 The Family's Holiday Decorations

This is where the Addams Family really starts to rack up storage needs.

Halloween decorations alone could include:

  • Skeletons
  • Tombstones
  • Candelabras
  • Cobwebs
  • Creepy portraits
  • Costumes
  • Outdoor decorations
  • Various unidentified objects
  • And unlike most families, the Addamses probably don't limit their Halloween decorating to October.
  • Storage estimate: A LOT.

So, What Size Storage Unit Would They Need?

Based on our highly scientific calculations, the Addams Family would probably need a 10x20 storage unit.

A 10x20 unit offers approximately 200 square feet of floor space, giving the family plenty of room for furniture, boxes and larger belongings while still allowing them to access what's inside. And if Gomez gets carried away with his train collection? They may need to upgrade.

What About a Smaller Family?

If your household is considerably less… Addams-like, you may not need 200 square feet.

Here's a rough guide:

  • 5x5 storage unit: Great for a few boxes, seasonal decorations and smaller household items.
  • 5x10 storage unit: A good option for seasonal belongings, furniture from a small apartment or a larger collection of boxes.
  • 10x10 storage unit: Offers 100 square feet of space and can hold the contents of a larger apartment or several rooms.
  • 10x20 storage unit: A good choice for larger households, furniture, business inventory or apparently an Addams-sized collection of belongings.

The right storage unit size ultimately depends on what you're storing, how much furniture you have and whether you need to access your belongings regularly.

What If the Addams Family Were Really Organized?

Here's where things get interesting. Even the Addams Family could probably save space with a little organization.

Instead of throwing everything into one giant pile, they could:

  • Label boxes by family member
  • Keep frequently accessed items near the front
  • Store seasonal decorations together
  • Disassemble large furniture when possible
  • Use sturdy containers for smaller belongings
  • Leave a walkway so they can actually reach the back of the unit

Yes, even the Addams Family needs a storage strategy.

And What Would They Definitely NOT Store?

Some things simply don't belong in a storage unit... even at the Addams mansion.

That includes hazardous materials, flammable liquids, explosives, perishable food and other prohibited items. Storage rules vary by facility, so always check with your storage provider before bringing something questionable into your unit. We're looking at you, Uncle Fester.

The Verdict

The Addams Family needs a 10x20 storage unit.

  • Morticia gets the wardrobe section.
  • Wednesday gets the creepy collection corner.
  • Gomez gets his trains.
  • Fester gets… whatever Fester has.
  • Thing gets the front-row spot.
  • And Lurch? Lurch gets the keys.

Need Storage Space for Your Own (Hopefully Not As Creepy) Collection?

You may not have an underground laboratory, a family crypt or a collection of haunted antiques, but if your garage, basement or closets are overflowing, a storage unit can give you the extra space you need.
